Educator Requirements
- The Summer 2025 Teacher Externship program will serve middle and high school Teachers, Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) Teachers, Institutions of Higher Learning (IHE) Teachers, school counselors, and school administrators (Superintendents, Principals, and Assistant Principals) from participating Independent School Districts (ISDs) in the upper 26 counties of Texas.
- Must be at least 18 years of age, eligible to work in the United States, and if male and born after 1960, be registered with selective services. Verify here: https://www.sss.gov/Home/Verification
- Teachers are required to participate for a minimum of five (5) days in length, 4 to 8 hours per day, at the worksite, as well as attend the pre and post Externship orientations.
- Complete curriculum and post-externship survey
- Include either a field trip to an Employer or a classroom visit by an Employer’s staff member or guest speaker, following the Externship completion.
Educators will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Externships will be assigned by Workforce Solutions Panhandle staff with regard to geographical location. Employers will be recruited in rural areas based on educators registered in that area. Stipends will be paid after educator successfully completes post-externship workshop and submits lesson plan. Region 16 will host pre-externship orientation and post-externship workshop and provide guidance to educators in lesson planning.
Stipend
Educators will receive a $1,000 stipend for completing all requirements of the Teacher Externship experience.
Continuing Education Units (CEU)
Educators will receive up to 43 hours of Continuing Education Units through Region 16, upon completion of the Teacher Externship Experience.
Important Dates
- Attend a mandatory orientation
- June/July – Complete 5 days at assigned employer
- Attend mandatory Post-Externship workshop from 9 AM to 12 PM
