A hiring event gives you something an online posting cannot: the chance to speak directly with employers, ask questions, make yourself known, and understand what should happen next.
Find the jobs that interest you
Review the employers and openings on this page. For your top choices, review the employer’s current posting or careers page if one is available. Choose several priorities, but do not limit yourself to only those employers.
Bring what helps you have a better conversation
Update your resume and bring several copies if you have them. Bring a pen and something for notes. Be ready to explain the kind of work you want and the experience or skills you can offer.
Meet your priorities, then explore
Start with employers you researched, then meet others in the room. Companies often hire for jobs that are not obvious from the company name, so an unfamiliar employer may still have a strong match for you.
Follow the employer’s next step
Complete any application you were asked to submit, follow up when appropriate, and keep your job search moving. A useful conversation should leave you knowing what to do next.
Keep the conversation clear, specific, and natural
You do not need a memorized speech. Introduce yourself, explain the kind of work you want, connect your experience to the employer’s needs, and ask a question that helps you understand the opportunity.
A simple introduction
Use your own words. The goal is to give the employer something specific to respond to.
"Hi, I’m Jordan. I’m looking for maintenance or mechanical work. I have about three years of experience working with tools and equipment, and I saw that you have maintenance openings. What are you looking for in those positions?"
Questions that can move the conversation forward
- I saw your posting for ________. What should I know about that position?
- Which qualifications matter most when you are reviewing applicants?
- Are there other positions that might fit my experience?
- What does the hiring process look like after I apply?
- Is there anything you recommend I emphasize in my application?
- If I apply today, is there an appropriate way to follow up?

Who can attend, and when?
Veterans and qualifying spouses have exclusive access from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The event opens to the general public from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Can I attend if I am not a veteran?
Yes. The general public may attend from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Do I need a resume?
A resume is useful, and bringing several copies is a good idea if you have one. Some employers may prefer an online application, so be prepared for either process.
What should I wear?
Wear clean, work-appropriate clothing that fits the type of position you are pursuing. There is no single correct outfit for every occupation. Comfortable shoes are also a good idea because you may spend time standing and walking.
Should I apply before the hiring event?
If an employer has an active posting and accepts online applications, applying beforehand can give you more to discuss at the event. Follow that employer’s application instructions, then use your conversation at the event to ask questions and understand the next step.
Will employers interview people at the event?
Some employers may conduct brief screenings or interviews. Others may use the event to meet candidates, answer questions, and explain their hiring process. Be prepared to talk about your experience either way.
What if I do not meet every qualification?
Ask which qualifications matter most and whether another opening may fit your background better. Do not assume one imperfect match means the employer has nothing else for you.
What if an employer tells me to apply online?
That is normal. Meeting an employer at the hiring event does not replace the employer’s formal application process. Follow the instructions the employer gives you and complete the application promptly.
Can Workforce Solutions Panhandle help me prepare?
Yes. Job seeker services can help with resumes, applications, interview preparation, job search strategy, and other employment needs before the event.
